Bowie Week: Friday

Friday On My Mind
I owe you all an apology. Some of you already guessed this one was coming, but that's no excuse on my part. As amazing as David Bowe was, he wasn't without his flaws. His 1973 album of 60s covers - 'Pin Ups' - is a real hit and miss affair. Mainly miss, to be honest. This version of the Easybeats' worldwide smash exemplifies this. Not one of Dave's finest moments to put it mildly, but it's the only Friday song I could come up with. Plus it's Friday the 13th, so this horror is strangely appropriate. Sorry.

  1. Hi Robster. Not sure if it is just me, but I didn't get the link to the song to work. Felt like a good time to listen to some Easybeats. You are right about this album. My least favorite from the classic years. Still, it's Bowie. Have ideas for Saturday and Sunday. I wonder if you cooked up something different. Anyway, looking forward to it.

    1. Not sure what happened with the link, but it's working again now. No one else noticed, mind, so I don't think anyone was fussed about hearing it. Can't blame them...

Last in the series is tomorrow - I did Sunday at the start of the week. The song isn't difficult to guess, but the version might be...

    2. Since I even commented, you would think I would have remembered the Sunday post. Jeez.

  2. May be a clunker today, but you're certain to more than make up for it tomorrow. Congrats on a great idea that has made for a fine tribute.

  3. I've told this story before, but I can clearly remember how much me and my pals in the classroom were disappointed when 'Pin-Ups' came out. This futuristic creature, seemingly beamed in from another planet, was playing old songs - ancient songs - very very old songs indeed. We felt somewhat betrayed, at least until 'Diamond Dogs' came along to restore the natural order of things. Now of course I realise that at the time most of the songs were as little as 6 or 7 years old, a lifetime to a 13 year old, but only the blink of an eye in reality.
