Ragged Kingdom

A short post today, in the style of CC. Last week's post about The Gallows Pole and its various guises included a cover of Bob Dylan's Seven Curses by June Tabor & The Oyster Band. It appeared on their wonderful 2011 album 'Ragged Kingdom' and I thought a couple of other songs were worthy of posting here.

So here's their full-blooded take on That Was My Veil (originally by John Parish and PJ Harvey), the evergreen Love Will Tear Us Apart, and James Carr's classic The Dark End Of The Street, a song already covered in great number by the likes of Elvis Costello, Frank Black, Aretha Franklin, Afghan Whigs, Linda Ronstadt, Ry Cooder, Prince Buster, Dolly Parton, Cat Power, Deacon Blue... blimey, this could go on some time. So here's the tunes:

  1. 'Ragged Kingdom' is an excellent piece of work. I've seen Oyster Band live many times, though only once with June unfortunately.

  2. Ragged Kingdom clearly requires further exploration on my part
