GIG ARCHIVE: #92 - Emmy The Great 13/10/2011

EMMY THE GREAT
Clwb Ifor Bach, Cardiff - 13th October 2011
Support: Stealing Sheep

A week before the 2011 Sŵn Festival, there were a few "warm-up" events featuring artists who probably wanted to play it but couldn't. I don't know the story, but Emmy The Great played a Sŵn-curated show at what turns out was our first ever visit to Clwb Ifor Bach. I'm amazed it took us so long.

Support was by up-and-coming psych-folk band Stealing Sheep who I was a little indifferent to. Emmy, though, was top notch. She had some great songs, especially on her debut album 'First Love', but there were some excellent tracks on the newly-released follow-up 'Virtue' which took on a new life live. But I've always been a huge fan of M.I.A. and she didn't disappoint.

We'd become semi-regulars of Clwb over the coming years, and this was a worthy debut.
