GIG ARCHIVE: #91 - The Wedding Present 23/11/2010

THE WEDDING PRESENT
The Globe, Cardiff - 23ed November 2010
Support: Ringo Deathstarr

My first Wedding Present show since the Virgin Megastore instore they played in 1996. In fairness, they'd been off the scene for nearly a decade as Gedge concentrated on Cinerama, but since they morphed back to the Wedding Present in 2005, I hadn't had the opportunity to catch them again.

But then they decided do a tour to celebrate the 20th anniversary of their best album 'Bizarro' and one of the dates was in Cardiff, so we duly took our chance.

The brilliantly-named support band Ringo Deathstarr (from Austin, TX) were most enjoyable. I hadn't realised at the time that shoegaze was becoming a thing again, but the Ringos (as I've opted to call them) were the prompt I needed to investigate.

Gedge and co played a few selected tracks from the Weddoes back catalogue before playing the entire 'Bizarro' album start to finish. They were on form, better, in fact, than when I saw them during the 30th Anniversary tour

My interest in Wedding Present live shows reignited, it wouldn't be nearly as long before I would see them again, and a few more times to boot.
