RIALTO
Cavern, Exeter - March 1998
Support: Shrug
The next big support for Shrug was this show, and I had joined the band as guitarist by this time, replacing Gary. We played a blinder, even me, the least musically-talented member of the band by some distance. The thing about the Cavern was that you always sounded good there, even if you weren't.
Rialto were skirting on the edges of the big breakthrough that would, within a few months, see them infiltrate the Top 40, appear on Top Of The Pops and become part of the Britpop fraternity. I remember seeing their kit lined up at soundcheck and had never seen so many guitars in one place outside of a guitar shop! I mean, we knew they were rich kids and all, but this was just showing off.
Rialto were very good though, I thought Untouchable was one of the singles of the year.
