GIG ARCHIVE: #49 - Chumbawamba 02/03/1995

CHUMBAWAMBA
Lemon Grove - Exeter University - 2nd March 1995
Support: Oyster Band

Taken from a review I wrote for the North Devon Journal, published 9th March 1995:

With a mediocre live album foillowed by a live gig which sounds almost identical - same songs, same formula - it's probably about time [Chumbawamba] thought about retirement. They're nothing new anymore. They've done their job, it's time to let someone else take over.

One of their new t-shirts bears the slogan "No one is completely worthless, they can always serve as a bad example". That just about sums up Chumbawamba in 1995."

How things change, eh? I think this was a perfect example of too much of a good thing. Having seen Chumba so many times over the previous few years, they'd started to wear thin on me by this point.

I did make a point, however, of saying the Oyster Band were "brilliant", which if you know anything about them will come as no surprise.
