BACK TO THE PLANET
Kaos, Barnstaple - date unknown
Support: The Sea, Electric Orange
No idea of the date of this one. Pretty sure it was the tail-end of 1993, but I stand to be corrected. Me and my old VW camper van were called into action when I got a knock at the door around lunchtime on the day of the show. It was Benj and Jez of Electric Orange asking for a favour. Their van had broken down and they wondered if I could take the band to the show in time for soundcheck. In return, I'd get in for free. Well I was always more than happy to do friends a favour, especially if a free gig was on offer!
Kaos wasn't a great venue sound-wise, but I do recall it being a great night. The Sea was a band I have vague but fond memories of. I had one of their early cassette demos which was very decent. If I recall correctly, they later tweaked their name to become .Sea and might have played Glastonbury a few times.
Back To The Planet were on the rise. Their debut album 'proper' - 'Mind + Soul Collaborators' - was released around this time and the so-called 'crusty' scene, into which they had been lumped, was finally being not just acknowledged, but heralded by the music press and media. They were a pretty big draw for North Devon, hence the choice of venue.
