GIG ARCHIVE: #203 - Dug 23/11/2025

DUG
Louisiana, Bristol - 23rd November 2025
Support: Amy May Ellis

This was another one of MrsRobster's choices. It was our first visit to the Louisiana in Bristol, and we loved it as a venue. The vibe is very much as if someone moved all the furniture and breakables out of the living room and set a stage up by the mantlepiece. Very cosy.

Support act Amy May Ellis is a local girl who played a solo set. It was her first live show for a couple of years, she tells us. She has a lot of good songs, and despite coming across somewhat tentative initially, seemed to enjoy the audience interaction as her set went on.

Dug are an Irish/American duo who blend the best traditions of both countries' folk music to great effect. They were discovered busking in Dublin and built a healthy following across social media. Accompanied by a couple of fiddle players (one of whom looked uncannily like David Crosby), they delivered a set comprising pretty much the entirety of their debut album 'Have At It!' At one point, even despite the lack of room, they got the audience in a circle for a spot of Irish dancing.

Mixed in with all this was a healthy dose of (often hilarious) storytelling, which made the intimate setting even more cosy. Speaking with the band after the show, they seemed genuinely touched that we'd travelled from Wales to see them. We wouldn't hesitate to do it again.
