GIG ARCHIVE: #202 - Dekker 06/11/2025

A gig of MrsRobster's choosing. I had no idea who Dekker was, but she follows him on Instagram and seeing he was playing in Cardiff, suggested we go.

Dekker is a US-born, UK-based singer-songwriter who wears a big hat that covers half his face! He'd bought a bassist and drummer with him for the tour. Sadly, there were less than 20 people there, so even in the tiny downstairs bar at Clwb, it felt somewhat sparse. We noticed a young couple there who appeared rather inebriated. The male seemed particularly clingy and a little creepy. At one point, they stood between the front of the tiny audience and Dekker and proceeded to snog each other. More than a little awkward and uncomfortable. After a short while, they went to the bar where they were both refused more drinks, before leaving.

In spite of everything, Dekker played well, and even wound up his set by playing a couple of requests hollered at him by a loud woman in the audience (who I suspect had sunk a couple of beverages herself...)

Overall, not really my kind of thing, but it was pleasant enough and MrsRobster enjoyed it, which is the only thing that matters.
