GIG ARCHIVE: #190 - Jane Weaver 09/04/2025

JANE WEAVER
Komedia, Bath - 9th April 2025
Support: Memorials

I came to Jane Weaver relatively late, only catching on to her after the release of her fourth solo album 'The Silver Globe'. Since then though, I've been fully on board. This was the first opportunity I've had to see her live, even though it was a little further afield than we normally go for gigs on a school night. But then Bath isn't exactly Outer Mongolia, so it's hardly a major effort.

Komedia is a great little venue. We've been to a few poetry gigs there before, but this was our first visit for live music. Opening the show was Memorials, a two-piece who specialise in experimental electronic psychedelia. Some of their set wowed me, some of it left me a little cold, but they were never less than interesting.

Jane and her band played a set of songs culled from her most recent three albums, all of which lent themselves well to the live setting. Personal highlights were Slow Motion, The Architect and Love In Constant Spectacle. But the best was saved til last. I Need A Connection is a bit of an obscure one really, featuring on the sort-of remix album 'The Amber Light'. But it's a true psych odyssey, nearly 10 minutes of bliss floating around the room to send us home sated and loved up.
