DIVORCE
Clwb Ifor Bach, Cardiff - 3rd October 2024
Support: Blood Wizard
The first two Divorce EPs were among the real highlights of my music purchases over the previous couple of years, and this tour caught them not just playing those songs, but also previewing their forthcoming debut album.
There hadn't been many bands I'd looked forward to seeing live over the past few years as much a I wanted to see Divorce. I just had a feeling they'd be something pretty special. Of course, that ultimately sets me up for disappointment. But as it turns out, Divorce were fantastic.
The vocal interplay between Tiger and Felix is probably Divorce's USP, but as a whole band they were on point. EP songs like Pretty, Birds and Scratch Your Metal sound so much brighter live, and the big singalongs like Gears, Eat My Words and Checking Out wounded like anthems.
The new ones scattered across the set also made an immediate impact which made me even more eager for the album. This was one of my favourite shows of the year, and let's face it, there have been some pretty good ones.
(I'd comment on the support band if I could remember anything about them, but I can't, so sorry...)
