COACH PARTY
Clwb Party - 4th June 2024
Support: Brass Bambees
Coach Party came to me relatively late. it wasn't until the single What's The Point In Life? came out that I first heard them and loved what I heard. But that time, they'd been around a few years and released two well-received EPs.
Musically I thought they were great. If I had one criticism, it's that lyrically, they came across as a bit whiny, like spoilt kids who didn't think it was fair that negative experiences happened to them. I was willing to overlook that though, they were very young, after all.
We did get to Clwb nice and early, and caught support band Brass Bambees, but now I'm writing this two years later, I cannot remember a single thing about them.
Coach Party do have a lot of energy live, much like their recordings, and the versions of their songs aired at this show displayed why they were considered to be among the elite of up-and-coming new bands who were expected to do great things.
But then singer/bassist Jess did her whiny little spoilt child thing, when she complained about having had to carry her equipment up the stairs of Clwb! She told us she nearly decided not to play the show! How fucking petulant. Who did she think she was, Diana fucking Ross? Can you imagine how much of a diva she'll become if she's protesting about a few steps while touring her first album?
Maybe when Coach Party grow up, they'll appreciate the fact they got more than just a leg up from venues such as Clwb Ifor Bach, and that to carry your own kit up its stairs in order to play to people was a fucking privilege.
