BIG SPECIAL
Strange Brew, Bristol - 12th May 2024
Support: Scrounge
Our first visit to Strange Brew in Bristol, and what a funky little place it is. It's billed as a community arts centre and is decorated by artwork, sculptures and, in the communal toilet, more grafitti than I've ever seen in one place in my life. It's a wonderful venue, and we were here to see a band we'd only seen a few weeks before.
Support band Scrounge made a big impression on us. They're a 2-piece from South London and they make a decent racket with some fine songs to book. Everything was brand new to us, but we knew we'd be investigating further.
The fact MrsRobster wasn't upset that I went and bought their album, single and a t-shirt from their merch, as well as having a chat with singer/guitarist Lucy, proved that she was more than impressed with them.
As for the headliners? Well to be fair there's nothing more to say that I haven't covered in my previous review of Big Special from their Cardiff show the month before. They played much the same set and were every bit as exuberant.
Great venue, two great bands. Sound.
