Katy J. Pearson's debut album (ironically titled 'Return') became something of a lockdown favourite for many. While a lot of artists held their releases back until all the fuss was over, Katy found a wider audience by doing the exact opposite.
Her second album, 'Sound Of The Morning', came out just as things were getting back to "normal" again and confirmed just what a great songwriter she was.
That's far more than I can say about support act Speedboat whose electropop was both forgettable and annoying at the same time. I'm bemused about their appearance at this show, they didn't seem to fit with the vibe.
One of the things that attracted me to Katy's songs was her voice, especially when she starts sounding a bit like Stevie Nicks. Here, her voice was on fine form, as were her rather excellent band. There's not really a duff track on those first two albums, so she couldn't go far wrong with material either. Personal highlights were Take Back The Radio, Fix Me Up, Talk Over Town and Alligator.
